    Purpose : To create a companion catalogue for an upcoming exhibition.

    Description : This service is for the artist in need of someone to translate their creative vision into eloquent and accessible terms that will inform and enhance viewers’ experience of their work. After an extensive interview with the artist and spending time with the work that will be on display, Tobin will craft catalogue copy that includes the client’s background and artist’s statement, places the work in a larger art historical context, and articulates the artist’s process and intent.

    *The exhibition catalogue will require a graphic designer and printing/bounding company, each to be paid separately. If the client does not have a preferred designer, Tobin can provide a list of talent and their rates.

  • SELF-PUBLISHED BOOKS & ZINES

    Client : An entrepreneur or creative looking to strengthen their brand through the creation of a self-published book or zine.

    Purpose : To create a well-written and visually appealing product that serves as an extension of a pre-existing brand and is a tangible reflection the client’s unique sensibility, aesthetic, and ethos.

    Description : This client either has a specific project in mind and simply needs a writer and/or editor or would like to work with a writer who has experience conceptualizing independent publications, developing and commissioning original content, and serving as editor.

    *This project will require a graphic designer and, depending on the publication, a printing company. If the client does not have a preferred vendor for these services, Tobin can provide a list of talent and their rates. Design and production fees are to be paid directly to the provider.

With her creative background and years of experience helping non-profits attract a larger, most diverse demographic through themed galas and special events, Tobin has mastered the in the art of throwing one hell of a party. From concept and design to invitation language, look books, photo booths, sponsors, and entertainment, Tobin can help create a brand-enhancing night to remember. This includes finding her client the perfect event producer to oversee the final execution.

  • MAGAZINE ARTICLES & PROFILES

    Client : A print or online publication in need of a seasoned journalist with a compellingly idiosyncratic perspective, who is well-versed in an array of subjects – including people, art, books, politics, travel, and trends – and delivers clean, thoroughly researched copy.

    Purpose : To add a fresh intelligent voice to an established or nascent publication.

    Description : For publications interested in commissioning thoughtfully reported pieces, colorful profiles, and/or affecting personal essays.

  • LEGACY PROJECTS

    Private Art Collection Catalogues + Tribute Books + Obituaries

    Client : This service is for the client interested in celebrating a legacy, be it theirs or that of someone they love.

    Purpose : To create a timeless and meaningful record of a life well-lived.

    Description :

    Art Catalogues : For the art enthusiast interested in showcasing their collection in a self-published, image- and text-filled catalogue that is part informational – contextualizing the work and providing a short history of each artist – and part biography of the collector. The resulting coffee-table book will be the perfect heirloom, one that tells the collector’s life story through interviews, anecdotes, images, and information about the art that lines their walls.

    Tribute Books : For the client wanting to celebrate someone special with a self-published tribute book that tells that person’s story in narrative form, incorporating images as well as anecdotes culled from interviews with the subject’s friends and family members.

    Obituaries : For the forward-thinking client who wants agency in how he, she, or someone they care deeply about will be remembered.

    Process : For all legacy projects, Tobin will meet with the client to get a sense of who is integral to the story being written, then schedule and conduct interviews accordingly. Tobin will then transcribe the interviews and create the outline/structure of the book or obituary, which will include notable quotes throughout. Tobin will submit the outline to the client for review. Once it’s approved, she will write and submit an initial draft, which the client will review and return with any notes and/or edit suggestions. Tobin will then incorporate the changes and send all interview subjects the sections to which they contributed in order get written approval to use the selected quotes. The client will then receive a final copy of the text to review.

    *The art catalogues and tribute books will require a graphic designer and printing/bounding company, each to be paid separately. If the client does not have a preferred designer, Tobin can provide a list of talent and their rates. Once the text is approved and the designer confirmed, Tobin will work with the designer on production details, timeline for completion, cover image, layout, print run, captions, photo credits and permissions. The client will be given a mockup to review with Tobin and the designer. Once additional changes are made the client, designer and Tobin will do a final review/edit then send to production. Though in-person meetings are not required, they are optimal, particularly when it comes to the art catalogues, where seeing the work and where/how it lives is beneficial to the process and final product.
